Coastal Escape is a collection of eight modern coastal retreats in Burtonport, set along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

A place shaped gradually, by landscape, by family, and by a long connection to hospitality on this part of the Donegal coast.

Out front, the islands sit low on the horizon, changing with light, weather, and time of day.
Behind, the land rises quietly.
Below, the harbour moves to its own rhythm.
This is a place that doesn’t need much added to it.

INTENTION
From the beginning, the intention was simple:
To create a place that feels calm, open, and connected to what surrounds it.
Not overdesigned.
Not decorative.
Just considered.
Spaces to sit, look out, and slow down.

Each retreat is named after an island visible from here.
Árainn Mhór. Inis Cú. Inis Caorach.
Names that belong to the landscape - not added to it.

Five generations of welcome
This place is rooted in generations of local hospitality.
For over a century, welcoming people has been part of life here — passed quietly from one
generation to the next.

CHARLOTTE
The retreats were named by Charlotte, now in her 80th year of life.
She is also shaping the gardens - slowly, season by season, in her own way.
Now in the second year of a four-year plan, the landscape around the retreats continues to evolve. 
 
As she says:

EVOLUTION
Nothing here is rushed.
The buildings, the interiors, the planting - all are developing over time.
What matters is how it feels to be here.
Quiet.
Open.
Connected.

This is not a finished place.
It is one that continues to grow - shaped by the land, the seasons, and the people who pass through it.
